YSL/Yves Saint Laurent Couture Blush Review

Hey Upper East Siders. #GossipGirl here. (Yes, I’ve been watching too much GossipGirl lately)

So, here I am with a high-end blush review! If you guys know TBR you know I’m more of a drugstore kind of girl but here I am #OffendingInYSL.

Anyway, my girls, Lorraine & Ogechi knew how much I’ve been loving blushes lately and decided to get me this for my Birthday.

A B O U T YSL

YSL Couture powder comes in 10 shades; and I was gifted 01 Rouge Tuxedo.

The Couture blush, 01 Rouge Tuxedo falls into ‘The Reds’ range that also includes 02 Rouge Saint-Germain.

YSL Couture powder blush has been out for a while and it’s said to be a weightless, highly pigmented and has the qualities buildable for colour. It also shimmer infused in the product, but that’s transparent when put on.

The Couture blush has a soft texture and has a sheer formula (opposite to my previous Nip + Fab review) but it gives you the chance to build it up. If you’re a beginner, you may want to start of with a sheer blush as it gives you more control and is easier to work with than a pigmented blush. The shade itself, I’m in love with (not only because red is my favorite colour) as it gives off a satin finish with glow, damn.

The blush itself can be applied on as an eyeshadow or below the cheekbones for added definition.

Swatching 01 Rouge Tuxedo, it's shown to be red in colour even when applied onto my skin. Whilst using my Real Techniques buffing brush, the product glides on lightly but it takes a couple of swatches for me to get the perfect consistency as one stroke isn’t enough due to how sheer it is. But, all in all provides a satisfactory outcome.

Plus, you can use 01 Rouge Tuxedo wet as it gives more pigmented for a brighter and bolder look, if you’re bold enough that is.

I had a lovely experience with its staying power as it lasts all day without any issue.

O V E R A L L

If you want to purchase a high-end blush for the upcoming summer (lets hope) then this should be considered. Especially as the compact gives you a classy and luxuries feeling. Importantly, I believe it’s WOC friendly as it gives out the right amount of pigment on my deeper skin tone and doesn’t make me look ashy. Although there are some positives, I'm not to fond of having to build up colour as I like my blushes to have immediate pigment when applying.

I will say the product blends in nicely, compliments and brightens my complexion and the right amount doesn’t overpower my makeup look. I definitely recommend this blush for a beginner who has no experience with blush or for an individual who’s into sheer blushes and likes to build it up. Thank you, girls, for taking me out of my comfort zone, I believe after reading this review you the reader, will do the same.
